In the latest Call of Duty game announcement, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 (사), players will be striking back against an attack from a newly emboldened North Korea with a race against the clock for preventing their securement of a new secretive superweapon. Fighting side by side with South Korea’s forces and Task Force 141 as Captain Price enters his darkest era yet, completely blacklisted SAS Commander. As Call of Duty Fans have been increasingly returning to Modern Warfare 2019 in large surges, MW4 has shown up at the perfect timing.
The development team is re-imagining the MW2019 look and feel in a new engine with elements of different MW titles. Gritty realistic military shooter fans have converged on the hotly anticipated title and a new realistic physical motion engine is said to be more fluid, unrestricted, as major features are being added to the game while returning to form for the series after a plethora of Black Ops entries including Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7, and the return of BLACKOUT (Black Ops Warzone), which have their own charm, but fans are ready for the newest, Modern Warfare 4 launching October 23, 2026 for Xbox Series X | S, PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Revival of the MW2019 style of gameplay combined with some lessons learned in 2023’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare III. The game features 12 maps for 6 vs 6 combat, with some support for 10 vs 10, as well as GUNFIGHT 2 vs 2, 1 vs 1, and even 10 vs 10. Most of the maps take place in South Korea or North Korea but there are locations around the world. GUNFIGHT Tournaments may come, much more polished version of MW2019. DROP ZONE, BIG WAR, GROUND WAR are also back!
Call of Duty KILLBLOCK – a map that has 3 distinct sections. the overall map size is about the same as shoot house. the 3 sections change every single match that you play and they are versions or sections of maps that you have seen before. Nuketown, Shoot House, Crash, other COD maps. There are over 500 different combinations where they can replace the various different sections. Every single time that you play it will be a different map. It’s even compatible with 10 vs 10 GUNFIGHT mode, Search and Destroy. More and more map sections will keep being added exponentially increasing it from 500 combinations to an all new level.
The game now uses a Microsoft Triton technology among other future tech in this game which completely simulates the 3D acoustics environment leading to that signature Modern Warfare sound system that far triumphs over Black Ops sound. However, this year’s Modern Warfare 4 will see an even higher advancement due to the use of this technology, with a complete awareness system for every surface surrounding players at all times creating a hypersonic bubble of atmospheric audiological experience.
Other benefits include a wider field of view enhanced fish eye lens, muzzle flare and muzzle smoke is more clear with less distortions, player visibility has been something the devs have been focused on fine tuning, enhanced field of view, wider fish eye lens. Movement including bunny hopping, slide cancelling, mantle system, ledge-hanging from MW II, and there’s also a dedicated melee slot now. Easily jump on top of something and slide, causes mantle into slide and push forward faster.
No more Omni-movement, which is great as this seemed like a misguided movement mechanic. However, there are fluid movements as well as the MW 2019 version of Tactical Sprint.

CAMPAIGN

Opening mission takes place in South Korea playing as a group of soldiers. A television broadcast shows the announcement of a new leader in North Korea seconds before the city you’re in is heavily bombed.
In this game Captain Price is in a dark era going up against the American government.
In the second mission of the game titled New York, Captain Price goes in alone and has a lead on Vladimir Makarov and finds him and beats him to death with his bare hands. This makes it very clear that the story is not about Vladimir Makarov, moving away from Sledgehammer Games’ MWIII storyline into the new North Korean threat timeline. Valeria is back as well.
North Korea has some secretive new superweapon and so they must regroup to side with the South Korean military forces to join and carry out their mission. The game will also focus heavily on showing off the difference between in life South Korea and life in North Korea, inevitably delivering an eye opening examination of Human Rights, Living Conditions, Liberty, Liberation, and its high cost, and those threats to freedom inherently behind the dictatorship treating their citizens like prisoners and launching missiles at their neighboring civilian targets.
In the game’s fictional plotline, Mexican drug cartels are somehow involved with facilitating the purchase of a secretive new superweapon by North Korea. Cpl. Dunn is sent in with the Rangers. Sgt. Jay is going dark to deal with enemy invasion. But it all started earlier, with Captain Price. He’s still a wanted man, 4 days before the invasion, and he’s in New York. This takes place directly after the events of Modern Warfare III.
Task Force 141 – Highly elite forces poached Specs Ops units from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Russian Loyalists. They are formerly disavowed, the worlds’ best warriors hand picked and off the radar for critical missions.
British SAS – Prestigious counter-terrorism force, known for their prowess, adaptability, rigorous training regiment and selection process. Bravo Team, SAS Squad, Captain Price has been blacklisted, so this faction will have an interesting presence in 2026’s Modern Warfare 4.
Republic of Korea Army – Renown for advanced capabilities and commitment to national defense. 443 Black Panthers Tanks, Demon Dogs, USMC Support Unit, one of the world’s most capable militaries blending centuries of martial tradition with state-of-the art technology.
MW4 will be the first COD game to launch on Nintendo Switch 2. That being said, it will also be the first COD to skip PS4 and Xbox One platforms marking this a full next-gen experience when it launches October 23, 2026 for Xbox Series X | S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Call of Duty’s extraction military survival game mode DMZ will be making its return in MW4. We will get out first sneak peek at the new version of this modern classic mode on June 7, 2026.
