Dementium II HD is a first person shooter with survival horror aspects. It stars a mental ward patient who must fight through his demented and often creepy nightmares. While being a remake / remaster of the 2010 Nintendo DS title, it can now be played with keyboard and mouse as well as a controller and features significantly improved visuals which we will evaluate as we go in this review.
Gameplay: Dementium II as an FPS plays rather well, but feels very generic at times. The flow of gameplay, while slower at the beginning, is steadily exciting later throughout. The game performs well as a survival horror, ammo is not too scarce however. The game also adds aspects to effect the flow such as parts where you must flee or be put into a nightmare by ghosts. The game always adds a slight difficulty curve too which keeps the game fun, fair, and interesting although the combat outside of boss battles is rather unexciting due to its simplicity. Where the game goes wrong is in its repetition at points and how it forces the player to backtrack at times – which I feel detracts from the game and forcefully extends it.
Graphics / Music:Â The graphics are pretty good for 2013 / 2014 standards. While a port of a Nintendo DS title, the remake looks well done. The music and the sounds can have the hairs on your neck standing straight up and aided the game in portraying its message. The music and sound actually freaked me out at a few points where I had to put the volume down or even pause the game to gather my mind. The detail on the creatures really create the horror aspect of the game such as the floating ghosts with their glowing eyes or the grotesque appearance of the monsters with ripped off limbs and blood dripping off of their bodies. The game is not too dark nor too bright and makes sure that lighting aids and does not harm the experience.

Online Capabilities:Â There are none.
Replay Value:Â Dementium II HD is a game with collectibles, such as notes, adds a small amount of replay value but not enough to drive more than one extra play-through. As opposed to being a direct game, it has an open environment that forces you to backtrack when you acquire weaponry so it could garner speed-runs, if that is a preferred method of playing games over again for you.
Final Verdict:
While occasionally suffering from slow or generic gameplay, Dementium II is a fun experience worth the purchase and if you like a game with some jump scares and a crazy out-of-this-world story, this is the game for you. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under 16 due to its imagery being pretty creepy but if you know an old-school Doom fan, this is their game. Dementium II HD earns its bronze game distinction.
