Party Hard 2 Review

Party Hard is a unique serial killer simulator released in 2015 that attempts to combine dark comedy with enjoyable gameplay and gruesome, but calculated murder. The result was a huge hit with the Steam version of the game receiving very positive reviews from thousands of gamers. With a pixel art landscape, stealth objectives, and various strategies to enact in order to achieve your goals, players must take out certain members (or the entire crowd) of an ongoing party. This has to happen with the least disruption and panic as to avoid being caught by the police. Witnesses are also not good!

This Is The Police 2 Review

This Is The Police 2 is a very compulsive game and if you are into games that are very hard to put down then this is the game you’re looking for. The people from Weappy Studio have furthered their story of Jack Boyd as he runs from the feds and other organizations that want him either put away or dead.

Graveyard Keeper Real Gamer Review

Earlier this year I had the fortunate opportunity to be a member of the Alpha and Beta testing period for Graveyard Keeper, the newest game from the iconic duo of Lazy Bear Games of Punch Club fame and tinyBuild Games who have published some of the best indie titles this year such as Garage: Bad Trip, Hello Neighbor, Outpost Zero, Guts & Glory, and of course this title.

Graveyard Keeper is a management sim in the vain of Stardew Valley or Punch Club. However, it takes the best qualities of games in its genre and mixes them together into an experience that cannot be missed. This review covers both the Steam and XBOX One versions as I was lucky enough to be provided a Steam press code as well as being a member of XBOX’s Game Pass service where the game is being hosted for subscription holders by Microsoft.

MOTHERGUNSHIP Review

If you’ve been playing shooter video games since the days of Quake and Unreal Tournament you may be finding the likes of Call of Duty or Battlefield too convoluted by kill-streaks, character classes, perks then you may enjoy MOTHERGUNSHIP. The creator behind Tower of Guns joins up with Grip Digital and Terrible Posture Games to produce the next chapter in the bullet hell genre.

Beholder: Complete Edition Review

Nothing is off limits to the elites. Hobbies, jobs, relationships, even the most benign conversation are all material to be documented while weighing your allegiance to the state. In Beholder, nothing is secret and nothing is sacred. It’s someone’s job to keep an eye on everything you do. It’s all for your own good, of course…

NOT A HERO Review

Not-a-Hero-GIF-2

“A violent today for a better tomorrow.”

Time travellers these days, am I right? In a game with no relation to the Magneto comic book of similar title, BunnyLord has come back to win elections but that means cleaning up the streets and although he’s not above getting his own hands dirty a number of times throughout the 21 days of campaigning, players are going to help a LOT. This involves taking cover behind bricks, whatever’s around, firing shots at increasingly difficult hordes of enemies, sliding to cover, execution style attacks, grenades, laser beams, rocket launcher – type bullets, grenade-shots, drill-shots, turrets, nail bombs, and whatever’s handy really.

Crypt of the NecroDancer Review

Crypt of the Necrodancer Review - RealGamerNewz

Giving a wide variety of dungeons and scenarios for players to experience, Crypt of the NecroDancer is a Roguelike RPG game which actually takes the key principals of the Roguelike genre seriously. Designed by Ryan Clark and Brace Yourself Games, a huge gameplay twist is applied to the title as players are tasked with keeping their rhythm similar to something out of a Dance Dance Revolution style of play. There can even be dance pads hooked up to play! The soundtrack included in the game provides a tempo for the bouncing and bopping to commence to which even garnered an honorable mention for 2015 Game Developers Choice Awards for Innovation and Best Audio among other moments of significant industry recognition. The soundtrack gets new tracks unlocked as the game progresses as well as  is extended if players reach New Game+ / New Game++ modes allowing for unlocked gear to be carried over. Alternatively, a custom MP3 collection can be used as a user soundtrack.

Axiom Verge PS4 Review

axiom-verge-screen

Axiom Verge is the Metroid/Castlevania/Contra/etc inspired action platformer developed by Tom Happ. The premise is that you control Trace, a scientist who was hurt and then wakes up in a mysterious, advanced, and horrifying world. The more you progress the more equipment you obtain. The world begins to open up to you. It feels as if a ode to games of old that provided that feeling of isolation to a diverse point.

I Am Bread Review

I Am Bread Review - RealGamerNewz

This is an incredible game, don’t let the score being below a 7 fool you. We believe it was a hard earned amount of points and nearly full amount as well. Bossa Studios are very talented and while the silliness of some of their games is probably a topic of debate for many, we have no issue with it. We truly think it’s hilarious and inventive that they’ve found so many ways to get creative with such a simplistic concept. Control each corner of a piece of bread and attempt to get it into the toaster without being too dirty to eat, and it’s way harder than it sounds.

The Weaponographist Review

The Weaponographist Review 3 - Mastertronic - RealGamerNewz

Tasked with battling an ever-changing variety of enemy hordes room after room, The Weaponographist has players assuming the role of dungeoneer Doug McGrave who is seeking vengeance on a witch who has cursed his ability to hold on to goods or currency. Because of a refusal to aid a town in which the dungeon is overflowing with bad guys, this witch has given this main character a really raw deal. This means that each time a weapon is picked up it must be used until it’s no good then discarded.

Tower of Guns Review

Tower of Guns Review - RealGamerNewz

Procedurally generated arenas are faced by gamers in this roguelike first person shooter describing itself as having “bullet hell” attributes, which means so many bullets on-screen you barely know which to dodge and which you’ve fired yourself. The game features a loadout system allowing you to choose a gun and a perk before running into battle rather than starting off with nothing. Coins are collected as well as experience the latter of which is used to upgrade weapons during a given instance. Weapons are increased in a variety of ways including spread and damage value. Coins though must be spent in a more discerning way as there are various power-up purchases available throughout each level. These can effect a character’s speed and other attributes.

Shovel Knight PS4 / Vita Review, 8 Bit Memories Remastered

Shovel Knight PS4 Review - RealGamerNewz

Shovel Knight is a 2D platformer in which the graphics featured are of an 8 bit style. Players take the role of Shovel Knight who after losing his comrade Shield Knight has gone into isolation. But now monsters and evil knights control the land. All of them under the hand of the evil Enchantress, and only you can stop them and free the land. So boys and girls, erm men and women, this is Shovel Knight, the retro hero.

Titan Souls PS4 Review

Titan Souls Review RealGamerNewZ

Although this game perhaps needs no introduction, I’ll start by saying Titan Souls is one of the recent indie-developed games that are part of a larger wave of software focusing squarely on gameplay. That’s not to say it doesn’t look and sound great, but surely in a world where multiple hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent on big budget games we are looking for pure gameplay design to merit purchases from smaller studios or even teams of three such as the case with Titan Souls.

The Escapists Steam Review (Time To Bust Out!)

The Escapist PC Cover

There are many indie games on the market today and whether that be on the PC, Xbox, or PlayStation each one has its own uniqueness and appeal to it.  Although, there are others that try to leech off of others successes, some do come out with their own originality. One of those games just happened to recently flip out of early access and bash into its own spot on Steam and it’s called “The Escapists.” The game puts you in the role of an inmate, who the player gets to lightly customize (i.e change his look, race, hair type) and name him whatever you see fit. You can also name other NPCs you interact with as well before you start each scenario. Once you start a new game it is definitely advisable to select the tutorial just due to the fact you can easily get confused about what your end goals are while playing.

Rack N Ruin PS4 Review

Reaching into the nostalgia of Action RPG exploration and pulling out the very best game mechanics while managing to forge completely new feels at the same time arrives Rack N Ruin on the PlayStation 4 from LifeSpark Entertainment made up of former Blizzard Entertainment talent reborn in the indie world. Hit up merchants for unique spells, collect the souls of the innocent for your devilish masters, and survive onslaughts from wizards, knights, dragons, even cryptic warriors as abilities are earned and willpower is tested. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Review

Hotline Miami 2 - Wrong Number - RealGamerNewz Review

Back and bloodier than ever, the so-called “final chapter” of this brutal series, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number takes place before and after the initial game in the series, but mainly after. A sequel and a prequel at the same time, if you will, the game has plenty of characters to play as. The Fans, Martin Brown, Beard, The Writer, etc. Most have their own abilities, such as The Fans all being vastly different. Mark can dual wield SMGs which can be aimed at two different targets simultaneously, Corey can roll out of the way of bullets, Tony can one-hit kill people with his fist but cannot pick up weapons, and The Twins can be controlled at the same time; one wielding a chainsaw and the other grabbing weapons off the ground.

Sorcerer King Steam Early Access Hands-On Preview

RealGamerNewz - Sorcerer King Beta 5 Stem Early Access

Now that the fifth Beta phase has been issued for Sorcerer King it’s high time RealGamerNewz drops our thoughts and feelings on the direction the title has been heading in thus far, the development studio’s vision for those who don’t know yet, and a general impression on how that vision is actually being delivered. Most importantly, whether or not this game is even fun. But first things first, there’s a few things you may not know about me which I’d like to disclose immediately.

Distance Steam Early Access Review

Distance Steam Early Access Review RealGamerNewz

This game has qualities that are reminiscent of Wipeout. It runs great and keeps its frame-rate at a smooth 60 frames per second even when you’re going at high speeds and when things get hectic. The only thing that keeps this game from getting a full 10 out of 10 is that we find the flying sequences break the immersion unfortunately keeping the player from getting in that full focus. Overall the game provides a psychedelic feeling of pleasure similar to what Wipeout could induce when playing. Even with the issue of flying sequences being troublesome, this game can still give you that feeling and players will have a crazy time playing it.

BOID Steam Early Access Review

BOID Steam Early Access Review RealGamerNewz

BOID is a game that reminds me a lot of StarCraft – but not in a good way since it doesn’t live up to that potential influence in a meaningful way. The graphics are decent but the gameplay looks like something you would get out of a Health book. The graphics are also not only if you keep in mind this is an indie RTS game.

I, Zombie Steam Review

I Zombie Steam Review

Whether you plug in a controller or use the keyboard I, Zombie is a pretty interesting game that is pleasantly surprising in the way of how satisfying it feels to master. Each level is a mystery. Players are given just enough information to approach the puzzle-like strategy and tactical layout each scene offers. Essentials to the gameplay mechanics include eating humans which turns them into part of your zombie horde, controlling that horde and hanging back while they do the work, and attacking alongside them while attempting to use them as (undead) human shields.

Ironclad Tactics PS4 Review

Ironclad Tactics PS4 RealGamerNewz Review

Ironclad Tactics comes from developer Zachtronics, an indie game developer that has several games in their portfolio which are mainly based on puzzle mechanics of some sort. Their main games other than this release are Infinifactory (our hands-on preview here) and Spacechem. Ironclad Tactics is a strategy game that takes on elements of a collectible card game as a way of controlling units in-game. It was originally released in September 2013 for Windows and Linux then followed releases on Android in October 2014 and hit the PlayStation 4 this year. The story for Ironclad Tactics takes place in an alternate version of 1860 during the American Civil War and follows the two main characters of Joseph and Maxwell who are employed in the Navy’s Bureau of Steam Engineering. They have developed a new kind of mech soldier called Ironclads which run off steam. They are not the only one’s developing Ironclad units though since they are also being developed by the Confederates for the war. The entire story is told with comic strips that are animated to keep the story flowing forward.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 Anniversary Edition Review

Surgeon Simulator 2013 RealGamerNewz Review

Simulators have been all the rage in the past couple of years. From Goat Simulator to even a Grass Simulator, Simulators have been popping up a lot recently. While some are good and very entertaining the others are just downright random and not as great. Well here is a Simulator where bad controls meet surgical operations: Surgeon Simulator 2013 Anniversary Edition. Surgeon Simulator 2013 is probably one of the most popular simulator games out there that invoke you having to – what else?  – perform surgery in many different environments, and not all of them are the same either. One surgery has you removing and replacing a heart, another has you doing the same thing except you are in the back of a speeding ambulance.

Castle In The Darkness Review

Castle In The Darkness RealGamerNewz Steam Review

An incredible new game paying homage to yester-year has been created by Matt Kap, who is responsible for a great deal of the artwork in Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (among other titles). Castle In The Darkness is the definition of pristine in terms of polish for a Retro-Inspired Indie Platformer / Action RPG. The Kingdom of Alexandria’s fate rests on your tiny 8-ish-bit shoulders after your King has grown ill with a mysterious horde of monsters slaying every last guard in town… except you.

Sunless Sea is a sea faring game that involves strategy and relationships between your crew mates. Are you ready for a story based upon Ancient Greek Mythology? Well don’t search too far because the game you are looking for is right here.
