Knack PS4 Review

Story: Knack opens up with a simple plot that expands into a really incredible story which is solid and easy to absorb. Goblins are attacking human settlements, and your roster of characters must find out why. The dark ones who play the role of antagonist alternates between two forces throughout the title, one being the goblin menace race who holds a grudge against humanity after the crystal wars of the past and the other being the billionaire science zealot who wants to use the power of an ancient technology called the relics to control the world (in the guise of doing it for our own good). There’s also a third party involved which are the guardians of the relics and their technological secrets. The character you play as is Knack who is a creation of the good doctor based on the technology of those same ancient relics. He is a being brought into consciousness who is capable of becoming larger by bringing more objects into his physical dominion which almost resembles a mastery of magnetism.

Dynasty Warriors 8 Review

DynastyWarriors8

Dynasty Warriors 8 (known in Japan as Shin Sangokumusou 7) is the eighth main installment in the long running hack and slash series from developers Omega Force. For the uninitiated, Dynasty Warriors tells the historical tale of “The Three Kingdoms”; a tripartite between the Wei, Shu and Wu states that followed the fall of the Han Dynasty during the imperial age of China. The story mode features four playable campaigns chronicling the many battles between the three aforementioned factions who fought for control, and the rise of Jin.

Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver Review

Hot Wheels Worlds Best Driver RealGamerNewz Review

At the risk of sounding like a meme, if you played with Hot Wheels then you had an awesome childhood. For those of us who came up during the golden age of pretty much everything from toys to video games, Hot Wheels were one of the favorites. In Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver you’ll approach the most interesting concepts brought forth by the original toy franchise as well as some of gaming’s best racing game mechanics in a journey to become the world’s best driver.

The first step you’ll take on this journey is selecting a color-coded team, each with their own primary focus (for example Green Team = Speed, Blue Team = High Tech) and then the racing begins. You’ll be able to switch between teams at any time and also unlock special abilities using tokens earned through in-game challenges. Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver is expectedly focused on fun factor rather than realism and will see players chaining together drifts for miles, drifting on two wheels for hundreds of feet, performing deadly neck-breaking jumps, driving up and drifting across walls, and even more across a variety of locations that does a good job of preventing any amount of boredom normally associated with racing titles.

Gameplay: Racing and drifting are the most fun parts of the game by far. Precision driving events can be very frustrating at times, but also rewarding, and will eventually mold you into a better drive throughout the game. Stages such as tracks that become more and more narrow as time goes are easier to appreciate than the events that see you tediously navigating through complex precision courses with lots of stopping, jumping, and turning around.

Hot Wheels Worlds Best Driver RealGamerNewz Review 2

There are also some really interesting events that have you doing things like stopping a 200mph speeding vehicle as close as you can to a finish line using a parachute and perfect timing. Overall the gameplay is very smooth, easy to get into, and most of all fun. The variety of so many different things to do in the game make it an experience that doesn’t get stale, and you’ll probably get more enjoyment than you might have expected from the brand we all grew up as kids playing with. There’s over 50 challenges in the game as well as a multiplayer mode and you can customize 24 different vehicles. Medals are earned and tracked in addition to stat-tracking across the four different teams you’ll play as with various ways of completing each event.

Controls: Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver handles really well. You don’t need to be an expert at driving cars in order to enjoy this game. While the racing genre is heading towards a hyper-realistic standard, even for arcade racers, Hot Wheels brings it back to the pure enjoyment that all gamers can appreciate with the added bonus of over-the-top gameplay like riding up a wall or going through crazy tracks reminiscent of the actual Hot Wheels toy tracks. There’s nothing to really complain about in terms of controls, players of all skill levels should have no problem picking the game up and eventually mastering it.

Graphics / Art Direction: There are a number of different tracks in this game and each one has a different look and theme to it. Throughout this racing title you’ll be treated to a high production value in terms of graphics and vibrant, refreshing displays with attentive art direction delivered. Firebrand Games has definitely surpassed expectations in this department showing their mastery of current gen console hardware.

Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: The soundtrack in this game is the upbeat tempo stuff you’d expect to find in a racing game but what’s really cool is that often times the music has samples and sounds that are familiar to the video game industry. The audio of the vehicles sounds clear and appropriate, which is great since audio is important to the feel of a racing game. The voices can sometimes be annoying but they are also an important part of this game since they inform you of what’s going on and what you’re supposed to be doing. Thanks to the voice-overs provided in this game, you’ll never be confused or stuck wondering what’s going on, which enables you to enjoy the game in a streamlined manner and worry about your gameplay not reading instructions.

Hot Wheels Worlds Best Driver RealGamerNewz Review 3

Multiplayer Aspect: Up to 4 players can take part in local ‘Hot Seat Mode’ multiplayer on one console in a pass-the-controller style fashion.

Replay Ability: High

Engine Performance, Physics, Glitches: The physics in the game is loosely based on that of real life racing but takes many liberties in pushing it more towards the arcade / fantasy side of things. You’ll get a good balance which leans mostly towards fast driving, easy to master drifting, and also enjoy ridiculous feats that could never be accomplished in real life such as driving sideways across walls, over insane ramps, and more. There were no glitches encountered in our play-through of Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver and the game engine performed quickly and with stability.

Final Verdict: Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver is a great game, there’s really not much you can complain about with this racing title. We would have liked to see a full story mode / campaign added, and that led to a less than perfect score, however we definitely recommend this game to anybody that is looking for a pick-up-and-play experience capable of providing a good fun factor. The title is also age appropriate for all members of the family with the ‘E for Everyone’ rating by the ESRB. The graphics, sounds, game engine, and fun factor all come together to make a well polished product from Firebrand Games and Warner Bros. Interactive earning it an impressive 9 out of 10 making it a Gold Game on the RealGamerNewz Rating Scale.

Overall Score: 9/10

Madden NFL 25 Review

Madden NFL 25 is an NFL Football game where you hold down the trigger button to run after catching the ball, and—haha, just kidding. The fact of the matter is Madden NFL 25 is at the top of it’s game, showcasing 25 years of innovation from the dedicated team at EA Sports who works closely with their community to remove exploits, enhance gameplay experience, and maintain realism which has never been matched in the industry. You could probably use this game to predict a lot, as EA Sports has worked very closely with NFL players to create the game by monitoring their body’s performance and their behavioral tendencies as well as implementing state of the art motion capture technology.

ibb & obb Review

ibb & obb PS3

ibb & obb is an incredible experience in two player, co-operative platforming / puzzle adventuring which will have you laughing at times, doesn’t require a mic to be enjoyed online, and has an equally fascinating (though slightly less playable) single player game mode. Controlling either ibb or obb, you’ll run into platforming puzzles that will at first have you stumped. Quickly through either trial and error or logical rationalizing, you and your partner will find your way through each level and grow to appreciate the simplicity of ibb & obb’s gameplay design. Figuring out how to use each element of gameplay, which is introduced one at a time, is definitely part of the fun. From jump-pads to character-specific portals you’ll have to master all of these in-game mechanics in order to advance.

FUSE Review

FUSE Xbox 360 PS3 Insomniac EA

Given the fonts and colors used to promote this game, you’d almost be reminded of HAZE, this is not a good thing. But look past that, because FUSE does what you’ve often wished games would do. It goes there. FUSE uses real life legends such as Area 51 underground bases and more to set the tone for a serious adventure that is parts Action, parts Shooter, and more.

Remember Me Review

From the very start of it’s story-line Remember Me is riddled with amazing eye popping visuals of a dark futuristic world. The game play has been perfectly interlaced with the characters. Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2013 Review

Many people will tell you that Need for Speed Most Wanted is one of the best Need for Speed games ever made. So you can imagine people’s reactions when Criterion Games announced they were going to release an updated re-imagined version of the game, me included. Let me just straighten something out now. I love Need for Speed, I played, finished and loved everything from Underground to Carbon, and I’ve even played games like Gran Turismo, Forza, and PGR and loved them too. So just take it from me when I say this. THIS GAME IS TERRIBLE. There’s no sugar coating it, it’s awful, and woeful and glitch-ridden.

Hotline Miami Review

Intro- I’m just going to keep swinging my fists and walking in your direction, if they happen to hit you in the face it’s your own fault. Remember that game when we were kids, or is it just me? Hotline Miami takes some of the most raw and unforgiving gameplay mechanics derived from street fights and brings them together into a game that will put hair on your chest. In Hotline Miami you are a killer who takes out mansions full of goons who are obsessed with rave club music and putting chicks into bathtubs. Not exactly a hero, you once did this for revenge. Now your anger, hatred, and passion are all blurring into one sadistic blend of combat.

Guacamelee! Review

The main character of Guacamelee! personifies the luchador culture while at the same time introducing his epic journey to share with you. You will switch between the world of the living and the dead as Juan Aguacate as you fight through your quest to stop The Calaca from taking El Presidente’s Daughter (amongst other world-threatening things). You are given enough motivation to get into gear and really feel the meaning behind each move you make and attack you perform. Things stay interesting as unexpected plot twists and a hint of adult humor subtlety make their presence known. Each scene in the game is essential in building your character’s back-story and place in the gameworld and arsenal leading up to the roller coaster that is ending The Calaca’s reign.

Thomas Was Alone PS3 Review

Thomas Was Alone starts out as a platformer that talks to you, but it becomes so much more as it tells the story of an intuitive plot that lends itself to gameplay, or was it vice versa? Resident Evil Revelations HD Review

Intro: There are those who say Resident Evil Revelations HD is nothing more than a “3DS Port” which allegedly “feels like a mobile game still”, but after significant time playing through the title it becomes clear right away that those claims are false. Resident Evil Revelations HD is a solid entry in this classic franchise and actually manages to outshine all other home console entries this generation in terms of the one player experience it is capable of providing. While we enjoy Resident Evil 5 and 6 for cohesive co-operative play, these titles have also been on the victim’s end of quite a few bashings for that experience not holding up to expectations in single player play-throughs.

Metro: Last Light (PS3 / PC) Review

Pushing the boundaries of PC gaming while also managing to deliver a fully immersive narrative and gameplay experience, Metro: Last Light is essentially Fallout without the boring parts. The hit detection in this game is second to none, every shot you take will go where it should. But that’s not the only thing about Metro: Last Light that will have you on the edge of your seat. Stealth gameplay also makes a huge appearance once again with light and shadow playing a role in the tactics and strategy employed upon approach. The setting of the game is a wasteland riddled with political corruption and wild mutants as well as a controversial race of beings that those who completed Metro 2033 should know all about. These beings are dubbed the Dark Ones.

The graphics in this game are phenomenal and although you won’t be getting the same experience on console as you will on a high-end PC, the great translation on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 actually looks fantastic and could easily pass for one of the best looking console games of the year. Beyond that the game’s’ physics engine is tight, and just plain old fun. For once you’re able to max out your gaming experience (and we really mean max out) without having to compensate in your gameplay routine for a poor game engine. This means Metro: Last Light produces a stress-free experience aside from the difficulty which can be very brutal as you run short on ammo and resort to calculated tactics for survival.

Some moments of this game feel like they are right out of a science fiction novel and tip toe around deep thinking philosophy that will have those who pay attention to detail pondering other worldly topics and aspects. However, this type of “sending a message” with the game thing doesn’t overstep its boundaries at all. The storyline of this game mainly intends on keeping you gripped in the action and passion of the main characters quest for survival in the Metro and at times on the scarred, worn surface of Earth itself. Adaptive artificial intelligence and intriguing enemy design will keep you on your toes and have you shocked into adrenaline mode quite often, and you will have to learn each enemy’s reaction to the guns you’ve got on hand until you know the most efficient way to kill what you’re up against.

The characters in Metro: Last Light are very well developed, and you’ll find yourself walking in on conversations that you just have to hear. These can distract you from the main plot, but also turn into side missions that you can actually play and experience for yourself. Most of the story line’s non-playable characters are quite memorable, and have a distinct personality to each their own. The game is entirely single player, with no multiplayer to speak of, but you won’t mind because it’s truly a single player shooter done right that veterans of the clouded genre can be proud to own and enjoy playing more than once.

The ranger mode adds to the gameplay experience by removing the heads up display in the game and creating an even more drastic shortage of ammo. Already in the game’s hardcore and normal modes you will need to be very careful how much time you spend wandering around in the game if you want to live. There is no swimming, and when you’re on the surface you need to be weary of how much oxygen and bullets you use now in order to balance how many you will be saving for later. There’s an ability to buy and sell ammo while also customizing your guns, but this chance will come only a handful of times as the game’s highly amped action sequences take you from place to place in a powerful rollercoaster of cause and effect.

Final Verdict: Metro: Last Light is an extremely polished shooter with a story that grips you and gameplay that has you gripping your controller tight until the end. RealGamerNewz scores this game a 9.75 out of 10.

Dead Island Riptide Review

Well the time is upon us. The foul smell of rotting flesh is in the air. What will be your weapon of choice? Who will live to fight another day and who will fall victim to the mounting hoards of reanimated, mindless, flesh hungry zombies? Dead Island Riptide is the perfect blend of survival and horror and redefines the genre which has often been accused of becoming watered down. The action of the game is intense, the story pulls you in and grips you, but most importantly you really feel like you are living in a post-apocalyptic world in which your every move must be calculated. Your eyes will learn to scan for infected constantly. Every time you turn a corner you will have to be prepared to strike.
