Final Fantasy VII (New PC Version) Review

Final Fantasy VII PC Review RealGamerNewz 2

Final Fantasy VII is arguably the single handedly most well known role playing game ever released out of Japan. Originally hitting the Sony PlayStation exclusively in 1997, this game has gone on to see a retro release on Windows PC in 1998 and is also available as a digital download from the PlayStation Store (compatible with PSP, PS3, and PS Vita). However, until now – there have been no noticeable adjustments made to the game’s look across these versions. Square Enix has taken the liberty of putting out a New PC Version that now comes with achievements, enhanced graphics, and a few other features that attempt to avoid spoiling the game while at the same time bringing it in line with modern releases of the genre.

Deadly 30 Review

deadly30

Deadly 30 is a 2D side scrolling survival shooter, developed by Ignatus Zak and Gonzalo Villagomez. Now as an avid fan of old style games such as side scrollers and platformers, I say that Deadly 30 definitely fits in to those field of games and is very fun play.

Tiny Barbarian DX Post-Mortem Review

Tiny Barbarian DX

One of the best features of Tiny Barbarian DX is that the controls are very intuitive. When players hit a button, the game reacts as expected. It’s accurate, it’s smooth, and it’s fun to play. Graphically and in terms of gameplay Tiny Barbarian DX is heavily inspired by retro sidescrollers like Castlevania or Mega Man, and yet it manages to feel very polished and actually stand side by side with these titles visually. The tactile feel makes it easy to run through levels that are designed with just the right amount of challenge to them to keep players on their toes but not go over the top with frustration. The music in Tiny Barbarian DX is also very well crafted and sounds retro yet with a noticeable upgrade in acoustics for those with a great headset. The sound effects relay information similar to video games of the past.

Gravity Badgers Post-Mortem Review

Gravity Badgers RealGamerNewz Review

Gravity Badgers is a gravity-based game similar to the Angry Birds franchise. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really become more than that which is a shame. This title is not bad by any means, but doesn’t push the genre to a new level and doesn’t experiment with new gameplay mechanics.

War of the Human Tanks Post-Mortem Review

War of the Human Tanks

In War of the Human Tanks players participate in matches of progression / attrition. Before starting a battle players must thumb through tons of dialogue and still frame graphics before actually getting to do anything. Thankfully the developers realized this was going to be a problem for the less reader-ish gamers out there and so this can be skipped though through a very fast message skip feature, unfortunately messages sent during battle do not get skipped and there’s a ton before the battles.

Insurgency Post-Mortem Review

Insurgency Steam

Insurgency is a newly released first person shooter game available for Steam featuring Multiplayer shoot-outs that are akin to the shooter feeling released during the golden age of First Person Shooter games on the PC platform. Developer New World Interactive brings forward this release on Windows and Mac OS X with a training segment, matchmaking system, and the ability to set up co-op sessions with friends.

Tales of Maj’Eyal (TOME) Post-Mortem Review

Tales of Maj Eyal Review RealGamerNewz

Tales of Maj’Eyal is a game that immediately brings me back to the Angband days which practically gave birth to the dungeon crawling genre but in a way that perhaps only the most exquisite tastes could really grasp and appreciate. Many players will be pushed away from a title like Tales of Maj’Eyal due to the lack of eye candy and modern day role playing game features. This is at the cost of missing out on a classic formula that helped make the rogue-like genre possible.

Long Live The Queen Post-Mortem Review

Long Live The Queen RealGamerNewz Review

In Long Live The Queen players take control of a Crown Princess who will become Queen and is constantly having every facet of her character tested. It seems like no matter what players do and how they build up the Crown Princess, something isn’t good enough. This is a frustration but at the same time the game is well put together enough that this also encourages multiple play-throughs and mastery of the mechanics. This means Long Live The Queen achieves a large amount of replay value, albeit at the cost of being an addiction and very difficult to master title.

Blackguards Review

untitled

With Blackguards, Daedalic Entertainment have created a game that is not easy to get into but unlocks tons of fun and satisfying gameplay for hardcore role playing game fans who are able to master its control set and user interface. If those don’t scare you off, then you’re in for a treat. Blackguards rewards players with a decent story, great battles, and an easy on the eyes experience that easily stands out in its genre.

Strike Vector Review

Strike Vector is a strictly air-born, strictly multiplayer piloting / shooting game that is visually appealing and provokes a strong sense of competition for those that play it consistently. Shamefully, the game’s many online dedicated servers sit empty the majority of the time and players come and go even within a single match so often it almost seems like nobody is enjoying themselves enough to stick around and kill or be killed. So much potential exists in this title, and yet ultimately it falls short of being a great game for several distinct reasons.

Magicite Early Access Review

Magicite RealGamerNewz Review

Magicite is an indie game that has an early access release on steam and continues the trend of indie survival adventure games but with a 2D platformer / RPG twist to it. When players start the game they create a character of which they would like to play the game as. This character creation process includes being able to choose how he / she will look. Stats for the character are randomly generated along with traits. Annoyingly though, you cannot select your own stats or traits which diminishes the customizability of your character.

Frozen Hearth Post-Mortem Review

Frozen Hearth RealGamerNewz Review

Frozen Hearth is a real time strategy game available right now on Steam with a unique story-line that gives way to original gameplay mechanics and a diverse set of units which are controlled by the player in addition to a main hero style character that is customized to some extent based on the player’s play-style. Structure building has been simplified quite a bit to keep the player’s focus on the battle at hand and so sub-structures are built and replaced as attachments to the home base rather than freestyle bases being built across empty lands.

Nidhogg Post-Mortem Review

Nidhogg RealGamerNewz Review

Nidhogg grabs potential buyers right away from the first sight of gameplay with its simplistic, retro-inspired art design and graphics. Using a conservative amount of colors and techniques, development studio Messhof has managed to pull off one of the most purely fun games to release in recent memory for the Windows PC gaming platform.

The Wolf Among Us Episode 2: Smoke and Mirrors Review

the_wolf_among_us_smoke_and_mirrors_header

Based on the award-winning Fables comic books by Bill Willingham, The Wolf Among Us is a point-and-click episodic series from developer Telltale games. This dark and twisted take on fairy tale lore, stars Sheriff Bigby Wolf (formerly the Big Bad Wolf) whose job is to keep the citizens of Fabletown safe. When a fable (fairy tale character) is brutally murdered, it is up to Bigby found out who is responsible and why. The story of this prequel to the comic series will be told across 5 episodes. The first episode titled “Faith”, started things off with a bang, and while there are a few missteps in episode two, it continues this trend. Note*: You must own episode one in order for you to be able to play this episode, as it counts as DLC.

Broken Age: Act 1 Review

brokenage_logo_new

Broken Age is a point and click adventure game, sounds fun already. It tells the story of a young boy and girl living parallel lives to each other without knowledge. A girl living in a village, a boy living in a spaceship. The girl is selected as the next to be sacrificed to a monster, but she refuses. While the boy is living alone only with a computer, I guess you could say is mom to watch him, but he wants to get away and live adventures of his own.

Zen Pinball 2 PS4 Review

Zen Pinball 2 PS4 Review

Zen Pinball 2 takes a different approach to the video game interpretation of Pinball. Instead of using already established tables from the retro era, Zen Pinball 2 has completely digitally inspired Pinball tables that function as fantasy boards – my favorites of which are the Darth Vader table and the Plants VS. Zombies table. If you already own a lot of tables from the PlayStation 3 version of the game, you can import your ownership of those tables into the PS4 version – which is nice for people who are already invested in this Pinball experience. As new tables are released for the game, you can indulge yourself in a demo play-through before deciding if you want to skip or purchase them.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 Review

Euro Truck Simulator

Euro Truck Simulator 2 simulates the experience of being a truck driver throughout central Europe. The ETS world is enormous; I have driven for over 13 hours yet I’ve still only managed to discover a fraction of the world. Because of this, there is satisfaction in exploring new roads and cities, but the real satisfaction is when you get paid in cash for successfully delivering a load. That is why ETS is a great game; it is simple yet has a economic sandbox core.

Recovery Search and Rescue Simulator Review

Recover Search Rescue Simulator

This game is so bad, that it is almost fun to play. Based of the title of this game, you would think that it would involve actual search and rescue missions. No! Literally all that you do in this game is search for items scattered about the “open world” map, which is huge! The open world makes traveling a drag. It is so boring to ride along on the ridiculous bike for minutes just to get the objective. I will touch on that a little bit later on. Basically every mechanic this game has sucks. This game sucks so bad that it is almost fun to play, because of how ridiculous it is.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance PC Review

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance first appeared on consoles in February of 2013, but has finally arrived for PC. It now plays in 60 FPS and 1080P, that is if your rig can handle that. Although, I do highly recommended playing this game with a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse – because the way the control mechanics work, it is difficult to play with keys. This is definitely a great game, but it does still have some of the flaws that the console versions have. With that said, it is still an amazing game to freshen things up for the PC gaming community.

GOMO Review

Gomo is an indie point and click adventure game by Fishcow Studios starring a silent stuffed animal character named Gomo on a journey to rescue his dog Dingo from aliens. It is available on Steam, GamersGate, Gog.COM and Desura and can be played on both Windows and Mac with Linux support planned. The game is controlled purely by mouse. You can play a demo of the game via the game’s website but to play the full story and its mini-games, you must purchase the game.

Archangel is a Diablo style game available on the Google Play store and iOS. Developed by Unity Games when you look at this game first hand it seems like you get what you’re buying. Stick It To The Man! PS3 Review

Stick It To The Man PS3 Review - RealGamerNewz

Stick It To The Man! is an interesting platformer / puzzle game in which players take on a main character Ray, who after a mysterious head injury can now read minds. Everything opens up with a subliminal dream sequence – which may be taken as a metaphor preluding to later events – as players get the character to awaken himself from the dream and discover a parasite of some sort within the brain.
